Three legged dog

Oakley, CA

I'm working for a family doing sprinkler repair and this dog watches me all the time. The paw that is all tucked up doesn't work and so the dog only has three legs to walk on.

Out with the old

Antioch, CA

While I was in Utah, I had John's camera and mine. Eventually, all I was using was John's because mine was giving me so many problems. I decided on the way home that I had just had enough. So tonight I bought a new "cheap" camera from Wal-Mart. My old camera is pictured here. I'll keep it for posterity.

Jumble

Antioch, CA

Yesterday we moved from Dish to Comcast because of my roommates new employment. The guys that installed our Comcast said that they were having problems because of the mess of the cables. Thus our front room is set up, but my room is not because they aren't sure which cable goes into my room.

It's been over 100 degrees the last two days so I've been pulling the shorts out as soon as I get home to my 90 degree apartment. When I go grocery shopping...this is was the women get to admire and the men get to be jealous of.

Pre Funeral Prelude

Brentwood, CA

I, along with over 500 other people, had the "opportunity" to attend a funeral for one of my co-workers who was killed in a horrible car accident last week.

--
I have been considering giving up PAD on June 11th. I figured making it 366 days straight was a pretty good accomplishment. Additionally, my camera in constantly having shutter problems. But after today I think I've all but convinced my self to buy a new cheap camera and continue on past June 11. At the funeral, for the fourth funeral I've been to in a row, there was a video montage set to music. (this one always makes me cry). The pictures for Lisa were amazing. They were of trips to various events, places, countries and adventures. As I watched today, I made a personal goal to have video montage of incredible pictures at my funeral. I remember going to the Grand Canyon with my father in 2003. I took 4 pictures. He took 3 rolls. His video montage will be so much cooler than mine when it comes to pictures of Grand Canyon. I will continue to take pictures, I now see, so that I too can have a montage played at my funeral...a montage of those sunsets and scenes that caused my shutter to click. A montage of my life adventure.

Registered

Antioch, CA

I registered my truck in CA today, losing just one more piece of my Idaho self and making an even deeper committment to the lovely state of California. I only have one more piece of Idaho to give up - that will happen when I register my trailer in CA. Then I will be all Californian. Sad Day.

By their fruits you shall know them

Antioch, CA

Or, in this case, by their vegetables ye shall know them. These are my first tomatoes of the season.

On a different note, the homeowners and I got together tonight and staked out the area for the future/fall garden. It is three times the size of the current garden. I can hardly wait.

tooled

Antioch, CA
Taken with John's Fuli FinePix F480

My mother always said that for any home project it requires three trips to the hardware store and 1 new tool. So to not disappoint my mother, I'll report that this weekend's project required 6 trips to the hardware store and these two new tools. As I continue to fine tune the ramp, I may also need to buy a tool like this one.

Extreme Makeover Ramp Edition

Antioch, CA
Taken with John's Fuji Finepix F480

I have a neighbor who is dying of bone cancer. She is now confined to a wheelchair. A niece's boyfriend's brother installed this ramp while drinking a case of beer. And it shows. John suggested to the neighbor, that I could build a better one. My help was enlisted and I designed and built this ramp. At the top there is a platform for the older lady to just sit and enjoy the weather. I then increased the ramp size by 4 feet giving them 12 feet to go up the 14 inch rise. The way the previous ramp worked actually gave a 16 inch rise in 8 feet, so by moving it to flat land I increased the run while decreasing the rise. On Monday I will bolt down the front using concrete bolts. Another neighbor has agreed to paint it...so I'm pretty much done.

The Build Process

The Previous Ramp

Please note there is no support underneath. There were no guards to prevent the wheelchair from falling off the sides. Finally, once on the ground, the person in the wheelchair had to deal with bumpy uneven bricks. I went about trying to fix these issues.

Mourn with those who Mourn

Oakley, CA

One of my co-workers was brutally killed on Wednesday afternoon. As word spread, the flowers, cards and visits flooded in. Lisa was a special education teacher for the county and was one of the nicest people to me when I started 4 months ago. Her classroom is across the hall way from my therapy room. Today was very somber.
