rain then thunder the lightning then hail then nothing

This morning it was normal rain. Then from 11 to about 3 it was actually sunny. At about 3:15 it got really fun. Starting with a big clap of thunder, the skies just opened up and for the next 45 minutes. Rain is soooo hard to catch on a Point and Pray camera (still can't afford a Digital SLR), but the rain and hail was coming down in such high volumes that I was able to catch it. It was a great storm to witness.

All of the drainage canals are flowing with run off now. Just a little while ago they looked like this - tranquil and habitable. But now they are torrents. It's great to see.

Amy and I went to a service project in Oakland that ran too late to go to the zoo as planned. So instead we went to University Ave in Berkeley and went for a walk on the pedestrian bridge that connects you to the Marina. It was a nice long walk.

Waves of Oregon

I haven't been to this part of Oregon or Northern California for about 13 years. So Amy and I went for a drive today. We first went to a light house, then a campground. We saw surfers and the US Coast Guard at work before just getting an eventual taste for Oregon while we were there.

Muir Experiences

Today Amy, Nina and I went to Muir Woods and Muir Beach. At the woods we went hiking and at the beach we watched the sun set.

Both sides of the Bridge

San Francisco and Marin Headlands, CA

My first adventure for Nina after she flew in this morning was to see all sides of the Golden Gate. Initially we stopped at the North West side, parked and walked underneath. Next was a walk out onto the bridge, then we drove across to Baker Beach for some sunset pictures. Once the sun had set, we were back to the North East side to a spot suggested by my friend Kelley. All in all it was a rather fun day. Friday should be the biggest adventure - Taking on as many SF tourist spots as possible.

There is a party over here a party over there

I got home from a date with Amy at 1 AM this morning. When I arrived, the party I was trying to avoid was still in full swing. It ended at about 2:45. I stayed up to help do the initial clean up (over 2/3 of the recycling cart is full of beer bottles). While the party was still going on I took this shot and those in BTC.

It only took several thousands of dollars and 8 months but the fountains at the LDS Oakland Temple are working again. These two were shot with different settings and I'm not sure which I like better.

I was all set to give you an update on the etch-a-sketch progress I've been making. But then tonight at 11:00 PM Wall's Rentals and the old Piedmont Lumber went up in smoke. They had fire trucks from every city near by and two ladder trucks.

Back to Baker Beach

I slept through church today, and didn't do much yesterday but hang out in my room and watch movies. I began to get a little stir crazy today and just had to go somewhere and take pictures. So I drove first to Richmond, but it didn't feel right. Then I decided to go to Marin Headlands, but the traffic there was stop and go. So eventually I made it to Northern SF. My dad and I had once gone to Baker beach so I thought I'd return. However, I got lost getting there initially and ended up at China Beach. I took a few shots there before a nice park ranger gave me directions to Baker Beach. I ended up walking both beaches looking for good shots, but also just enjoying the breeze on my face and the sounds of the waves. It was nice to be there.
