Tonight John and I layed out compost and chicken manure. I'm three steps away from planting:
1. Steer Manure
2. Tilling
3. Setting up a water source to attach the Drip to
Once that is all done the plants will go in and we'll pray something comes up.

Good luck with the garden -- it's a lot of work, but there is nothing more satisfying than seeing somethnig grow what you planted.
ReplyDeleteA few years ago I finally gave up on my tomato garden. Oh, I tried my best for several years, but I just don't have quite enough hours of full sun in my yard and the surrounding trees just keep getting taller and taller, blocking more and more sunlight.
But again, good luck with yours -- my only advice is don't plant too many large squash!
why are you putting in all three? the compost, chicken manure, and steer manure? does your dirt really need all of it? you do know that if you put too much of some stuff, it will kill off your plants with an over abundance of stuff, dont you?
ReplyDeleteYes, the soil needs it. Plus, I'm only putting skim amounts of the first two in the soil. The real focus will be with the sterr manure.
ReplyDeleteThe soil hasn't been worked in at least 8 years and when the home was built the ground was used to dump building materials. So a little steer crap will do it some good. I'll send you pictures when I get to that point.
Donald: Sadly the whole point of the garden is to get squash. I like making zucchini bread. I like making a lot of it. This will let me. The rest of the garden is for other people.
