These pictures are out of order. We saw the baby bear at about 10:30 when we first arrived at the park. There was a nice park ranger there to tell us that the bear we were looking at was abour 18 months old and had been orphaned last summer while watching its mother be hit by a speeding car. This young bear had a homing beacon collar.
The top picture is of another brown bear (this one an adult) that we saw as we were leaving the park. There were no park rangers to tell us anything or to tell certain dumb people not to go downinto the valley and try to talk to the bears.
As special note, this day marks the first time I saw a bear that wasn't behind a plexi-glass window.
